Meeting of Stoneyford Active Retirement Group (S.A.R.G.)

1st March 2023 in Community Centre, Stoneyford (R95 FCV9) @ 14.30.

The meeting was very well attended with apologies from those unable to attend.

  1. In the absence of Carole, Conchubhar chaired the meeting and he welcomed everyone.
  2. Members present & Apologies.
  3. Minutes of the February meeting were read. They were signed by the Chairperson.
  4. Treasurer’s Report – €2,645.59 (Membership Fees, €1,529.32, Activities Fund, €1,116.27), Holiday Fund – €307.20, Petty Cash – €95.00.
  5. The South East region AGM was held on 21st February in Waterford. Jackie and Conchubhar attended and Jackie gave a report. She raised concerns about plastic membership cards. New cards being issued will be made of recyclable plastic and will be valid for 3 years. They will also be issued with removable strips (secretaries will no longer have to write names and membership numbers on the cards. Yippee!!). The S/E Committee recommended that groups in the area should occasionally meet in clusters. She also gave Callan and Thomastown groups who were at the meeting information regarding our holiday to Dundalk.
  6. Jackie has contacted Active Retirement Ireland to get the phone number for Ballyraggett group to see if they are interested in joining us in Dundalk. They took her phone number and are to forward it to Ballyraggett, but she has heard nothing from them yet. Another option is to contact McGinleys to see if they are aware if any other group might be interested in going to Dundalk with us.
  7. Computers, free, Tuesdays 10.00 to 13.00.
  8. Short Mat Bowling every Wednesday afternoon @ 2.30. Hall rental €3.
  9. Fit Club, €7.00: Wednesday nights @ 7.00. Bring your own weights and mat.
  10. Bowling in KK, €7, includes tea/coffee & biscuits: Thursdays – 2/3, 16/3 & 30/3 @ 11.30.
  11. Cards – 25, hall rental €3, plus €2 to play: Thursdays – 9/3 & 23/3 @ 2.30.
  12. On 25th February, a number of us went to Waterford to see Swan Lake. Colette gave a wonderful account of this. We met up in Stoneyford for car sharing and then drove to Waterford. We had lunch in The Tower Hotel, where we were very well looked after. We then went across the road to the Royal Theatre. We were very impressed by both the theatre itself and the performance of the Ukrainian Ballet of Peace.
  13. It was suggested that those attending the art classes might like to exhibit some of their work to the next meeting.
  14. As they didn’t have a Senior Citizen’s party at Christmas, SDA is proposing to have one around Easter and soughtour opinion. We suggested the 16th of April. Conchubhar is to liaise with SDA.
  15. The local soccer club approached SDA about replacing the grass in the Community Centre with Astro turf which lead to a lively discussion. A number of questions were raised, including about the length of lease, would there be exclusive use by any one group and whether the soccer club had considered installing proper drainage to the existing grounds. Conchubhar is to liaise with SDA.
  16. It is proposed to run flower arranging classes on 28th March and 4th April and a number of people are interested. These will be funded by the ETB, but those attending will have to make a contribution towards the hall. Jackie to liaise with Eva Holmes.

17. Angela gave us an uplifting poem about Pansies.
18. Next meeting 5th April @ 2.30.
19. Refreshments for April: Audrey Hogg & Kitty Wallace.

An enjoyable chat and refreshments followed.

P: S: Signed as a true record of the meeting:
