The meeting was well attended and some new members and guests were welcomed.

  • After many false starts, on 31st October, the group finally managed to escape to Westport and an enjoyable time was had by everyone.  Conchubhar presented a slide show of the holiday and gave a very interesting story with each photo.  The photos can be viewed/downloaded on stoneyford.ie.  Thanks to Jackie and Carole for their hard work in organising the holiday and to Conchubhar for putting together slide show.
  • The meeting continued with the Chair welcoming everyone, including new members Members present & apologies.
  • Minutes of the October meeting were circulated and were deemed to have been read.  They were signed by the Chairperson.
  • Treasurer’s Report: – €1,389.29 (SARG Members Funds = €1,090.02, Activities Funds = €299.27). Holiday Fund €10,192.20.
  • S/E Region Autumn Council Meeting was held on 13th October in the Talbot Hotel.  Jackie, Conchubhar & Margaret attended.  A very interesting presentation was given by Alone.  Margaret to check with them after Christmas to see if they could give the presentation to us.
  • The Christmas Tree Festival is in St Canice’s Cathedral from 1st to 6th December.  SARG are to enter a tree.
  • E.reader pens, which are aids to reading, are available to borrow from the library.  Imelda tried one and didn’t find it very helpful.
  • Jackie attended a meeting in KCETB.  She distributed details of classes that they run.  Whilst there is no funding available at present, they advised us to apply now for any classes that we might like to do in the new year.  Art classes with Eoin Fox was suggested and a number of members were interested.
  • Stoneyford Text Alert have organised for the Gardai to give a talk on security & safety.  It is in the hall on 17th November at 8pm.  All are welcome to come.
  • Activities:
  • Computer Classes, free Tuesday, 10.00 – 13.00.
  • Short Mat Bowling – Wednesday @ 10.30, Hall Rental (€3).
  • Fit Club – Wednesday at 7.00 (€7).
  • Bowling in Kilkenny, €7, includes tea/coffee & biscuits:  Thursdays – 24/11 @ 11.30. 
  • Cards – 25, Thursdays, 17/11 & 1/12 @ 2.30, Hall Rental €3 plus €2 to play.
  • The Annual Lunch will be held in January.  A number of venues were suggested and Carole is to follow up on this.
  • A number of members are interested in participating in a Christmas wreath workshop.
  • A number of members are also interested in participating in a jewellery making workshop.  This will be run in January.
  • On Mondays in the Watershed, KRSP run age friendly spinning classes.
  • On 10th November, a number of members are going to the National Gallery to see the Turner Exhibition.
  • On 1st December, a number of members are going to the Cushendale Woollen Mills.  Meet at 10.00 in the Community Centre (car sharing).
  • Members were encouraged to suggest places of interest that we could visit during 2023.
  • Poetry/prose: Angela had two very entertaining poems.
  • Thanks to everyone who provided refreshments, served or tidied up after the meeting.

  • Next meeting 7th December @ 2.30.
