Carrickshock Gaa : 0-14(14)
Erin’s Own Gaa Club : 1-13(16)
Carrickshock Seniors‘ 2nd attempt at clearing the Championship 1st Round hurdle of Erin’s Own came up just short on Saturday.
It was played on the same immaculate pitch in Clara Gaa Club Kilkenny in just as fine conditions as the drawn game a week before. This time Carrickshock started with the slight breeze and looked to have made the most of it, leading 0-9 to 0-1 just before half-time. Going in 10 points to 3 up, it looked a healthy lead.
But a 6 points to 1 turnaround in the 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd half ate up most of it. From there to the finish it was nip and tuck, before Erin’s Own got back on level terms with 3 minutes left. When John Power put over a point from an impossible angle with a minute left it looked like the Shocks would survive. On the next Erin’s Own attack the ball broke kindly to Declan Dunne and he finished to the net. Cruelly it was to be the last score of the game and sends Carrickshock into a relegation play-off against Danesfort in 2 weeks’ time. But there were enough positives in the 1st half to give plenty of hope of victory in that one.
