New Community Sportsfield:

Carrickshock GAA, Stoneyford United AFC and Carrickshock Camogie Clubs have come together to make a joint bid for lands close to Stoneyford village for much needed expanded sports playing facilities. Stoneyford Development Association is fully supportive of the ambitious project and is very keen to play an active positive role in this development.

Community Garda Text Alert Scheme:

Villagers turned out last Tuesday to support the Garda Text Alert Scheme in decent numbers. Sgt Ted Hughes and Village Garda Tina Walsh gave a very comprehensive presentation of all aspects of the scheme. 33 Text alerts of suspicious activity in the immediate area had been received by members of the scheme in the last twelve months.

Both existing members and new members are reminded that the membership of €10 needs to be renewed immediately and paid to The Administrator: Lisa O’Dwyer of the Stoneyford Garda Text Alert Scheme (SGTAS).

Lisa can be contacted on 086-801 3133; lisamarieodwyer@gmail.com or envelope drop-in via Stoneyford Garda Station FAO Lisa O’Dwyer.

Heritage & Conservation:

Recently Heritage Officer, Dearbhala Ledwidge and Conservation Officer, Francis Coady visited the village for a revaluation and review of both the Protected Structures and Listed Built Property in the Stoneyford & Ennisnag area. Particular emphasis was placed on the 12thCentury Lawcus/Ennisnag Bridge and the former (semi-derelict) Infant School opposite the Norelands Junction.

Town & Village Renewal Scheme:

A meeting took place at the Community Centre last week with senior County Council Executive officers re final application for funding from Phase 1 of the EU Town & Village Renewal Scheme in 2018.

A footpath to Ennisnag was prioritised, as well as parking in the village, traffic management and the Tourism/Heritage dimensions.

Volunteers:

It is regrettable that so few people who live in our community come forward as volunteers especially under the Tidy Towns banner. Tidy Towns work is suitable for all ages, children young people, not so young and elderly people. Over 600 people live in the immediate Stoneyford Village area and yet we struggle to get half a dozen volunteers. We need to know what suits you – day or time. Please let us know at stoneyfordnews@gmail.com or 087-315 6359.
