We need your old photographs of the Village!
Stoneyford History & Heritage Society need your old photographs. Do you have a photo or print of any of the following? The old Humped Back Bridge, Lanigans Forge, Lees Forge, O’Grady’s of the Bridge, the old Dispensary, The line of old houses at the Ennisnag/Kilkenny Rd, the RIC Barracks, the famous postcard of Main St, old National School, Kelly’s of the Castle, old Infant School, Flood Memorial School, Spellman’s Post Office, Graham Finnegan’s Garage, Andy Brennan’s Garage, the Petit Sessions House/Court House, 1948 NS opening, St Brendan’s Church, Giltraps, old Street photos, O’Neill’s Public House, Centaur Castle Ennisnag, St Peters Ennisnag, Ennisnag old bridge, 1827 Ennisnag Bridge and the Fever Hospital Stoneyford.
We also need photos of groups of people taken pre 1970, preferably with name captions, either at school, sport or at special occasions. We are also seeking the names of the first Development Association and the first or subsequent Tidy Town Committee(s). All photographs will be scanned and safely returned to owners. Please place same in an envelope with your name and contact detail written lightly on the reverse of each photo. Also put your contact details Address, telephone and or email address on the envelope. The H&HS will be most pleased to receive your assistance as it is their intention to mount a permanent photographic exhibition from a random selection of photographs submitted at the Community Centre in 2018.

Development Association:
The next Board meeting of the Stoneyford Development Association will take place at the Community Centre on Tuesday 8th January at 9.15pm. A full attendance is expected where the revised Village Renewal Scheme plan in conjunction with Kilkenny County Council will be outlined.
Tidy Towns 2018
A meeting of the Tidy Towns Group will be held at the Community Centre on Monday 15th January at 9pm. Plans for the year will be formulated and outlined. All are welcome.
Nostalgia Evening:
An evening of Nostalgia will be held at the Community Centre on Monday 21st January at 7.30pm. A video recording and photos taken at the 2017 Easter Remembrance Ceremony as well as photos from the recent Senior Citizens Christmas Party will be shown.

The Committee has commenced the planning phase of the upgrade and refurbishment of the Community Centre. The plans are available to be viewed on door of the Centre and also on the Gáirdín’s facebook page – www.facebook.com/thefaminegarden/

If you are leaving your home even for a short time, do lock all external doors and windows. Make sure all candles and naked lights are out before you leave or before you retire to bed. Be extra careful on the roads during the Christmas season and do show care for others. Safe Driving! With the ‘Text Alert’ in operation please be vigilant and always be aware there is always Garda help close at hand.

Christmas can be a sad time for many people, and in the midst of apparent universal gaiety, some of us can feel very alone. Senior Help Line volunteers are trained older people who understand the ups and downs of life, and are happy to listen, to keep company and to support. Suicide Awareness Gathering:
Get Together in St. John’s Church, Kilkenny on Wednesday 3rd. January 2018. Speaker: Mr. Kenneth Egan (2008 Olympic Silver Medalist). Music by local Kilkenny Artists. All are very welcome.
“Gala Ball”:
The Thomas Hayes Trust will hold a ‘Gala Ball’ on New Years Eve, Sunday 31st. December in Hotel Kilkenny. Music by the “The Works Band”. Drinks Reception at 7.30p.m.followed by 4 Course Meal. All proceeds will go to ‘The Thomas Hayes Trust Fund’; providing ongoing counselling and support for Suicide Awareness in the Community.

Operation Transformation:
Nationwide walks will take place locally on the 13th. January at 11.00a.m. in Kilkenny Castle Park and Castlecomer Discover Park.
