Carrickshock G.A.A. News 16 Deireadh Fómhair 2017
Minor Championship
Carrickshock minors came up short against Roinn C Championship favourites St. Patrick’s in their semi-final on Saturday in Bennettsbridge. In what was a very high-standard contest the scoring was clinical and within 5 minutes it was 3 points apiece, 2 of them excellent points from play by Jake O’Dwyer. For the next few minutes St. Patrick’s seemed to be getting on top. But when Jamie Barron dispossessed his man after 10 minutes and fired over the bar, it set the tone for the rest of the half. Carrickshock outscored them 6 points to 1 in this spell. Michael Murphy was dominating at centre-back, Dan Blanchfield in goal was launching missiles to the far 21-yard line and Eoghan O’Neill at the other end popped over a couple of beauties. But for a couple of missed goal opportunities and wides before half-time, the lead could have been, and probably needed to be, bigger than 0-10 to 0-7. Much like The Village last Saturday, St. Patrick’s were a different team on the restart. They took full advantage of the wind and had clocked up 8 points to 1 within 10 minutes, to put them 4 up. The battle never let up, and Carrickshock stayed within striking distance all the way to the finish, but St. Patrick’s were simply better able to pick off their scores. It finished 0-22 to 0-14. Huge credit is due to the boys and their coaches for their whole campaign with such a young bunch – 6 of last year’s Under 14s took the field on Saturday.
