Carrickshock G.A.A. 19 Meán Fómhair 2016

Intermediate League

Carrickshock had a topsy turvy finish to their league campaign against St. Lachtains in Callan on Saturday. They surrendered a comfortable half-time lead to go down by 2 points, but still finished top of their group. That puts them into a League Final against Tullaroan, who topped their group in very impressive style with 5 wins out of 5. The final will take place over the weekend of October 1st / 2nd. After the disappointing finish to last season, wouldn’t it be great to start the business end of this season with some silverware?

Under 14 Championship

Carrickshock 2-10 Conahy 4-10. This match was a lesson in the cruelty of sport if ever there was one. The Shocks went in at half-time a goal down after playing into the breeze. In the second half the breeze died, but the boys took over and levelled it after 10 minutes. They missed chances in this spell to pull clear. With 15 minutes left they hit the crossbar and shortly after Conahy goaled at the other end. The boys maybe panicked a bit, and started going for goals too early. Despite putting on all the pressure they couldn’t peg it back, and Conahy found the net in the dying minutes to seal it. It was of course a disappointing finish to what had been overall a season of great progress, which still gives plenty of hope for the future for these boys. And there are still 1 or 2 tournament or challenge games to round of the season on hopefully a brighter note.
