Carrickshock G.A.A. 10 Iúil 2016
Intermediate Hurling
Well done to the intermediates on another impressive showing in the league on Saturday in Piltown. They made it 3 wins in a row with a 9 point win over Tullogher. Carrickshock now sit on top of the league going into the last round, which is fixed for the weekend of August 12.
Under 14 Hurling
Carrickshock Under-14s suffered a heart-breaking defeat by 1-10 to 1-8 in the League Final against Tullaroan last Wednesday in Bennettsbridge. The boys were slow to start, despite playing with a strong breeze, but when Eoin Crowley struck a magnificent sideline cut that snuck in under the bar, the boys got into their stride. They soon rattled off 3 points before Tullaroan got their 1st score to leave it 1-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. The rest of the half was end to end. A half-time lead of 1-4 to 0-3 looked like it mightn’t be enough with the 2nd half to come and the breeze picking up. But the 1st 10 minutes were even, until a long ball from Tullaroan took a lucky bounce and ended up in the net, leaving the sides level at 1-5 each. Tullaroan then had their purple patch and pulled 4 points clear. Carrickshock looked dead and buried, but these boys wouldn’t lie down. Luke Hudson at centre back stormed into it, and with Eoin Crowley dropping back to help out, they started to put pressure on the Tullaroan backs. They put over the next 3 points thanks to Eoghan O’Neill’s deadly accuracy and with 5 minutes left it was down to a point, 1-9 to 1-8. Tullaroan put the next one over, and the last 5 minutes saw a siege on the Tullaroan goal. Sadly it wasn’t to be, but the fantastic spirit these boys showed when they looked dead and buried bodes well for the championship to come.
