Under 16 Hurling
After a number of false starts, the Under 16s finally got their league campaign started last Monday 27th, in a bitterly cold Hugginstown. And they came away with a very encouraging win over neighbours Mullinavat. Despite playing into the wind, Mullinavat started strongly but couldn’t put the scores on the board. Then once the Carrickshock half-backs and midfield got to grips with their opponents, the Shocks started to dominate and went in at half time 1-3 to 0-1 ahead. With the wind behind them in the 2nd half Mullinavat still struggled to break down a resolute Carrickshock defence. They did eventually, and scored 3 points in quick succession to leave the scores 1-4 to 0-5 to set up a nervy finish for Carrickshock. But they held firm and knocked over the final score for a 1-5 to 0-5 win. Next up is a visiti to Tullaroan on Monday 4th.
Minor Hurling
The minors travelled to Ballyragget on Wednesday evening to take on St. Patrick’s in the last round of the league before the exam break. A bright start saw Carrickshock race into a 5 point to 1 lead but a goal mid-way through the 1st half brough St. Patrick’s back into it. They built on that to lead by 2 at half-time. Despite missing a number of regular starters, Carrickshock battled hard in the 2nd half and a Kieran Conway goal kept them in it, but they eventually went down by 2-12 to 1-9.
Under 14 Hurling
The Under 14s met their match against Tullaroan in the 2nd round of the league on Thursday evening in Hugginstown. After a close 1st half that left Tullaroan 2 points ahead, their forwards caught fire in the 2nd half. They knocked over a string of impressive points to run out winners by 1-21 to 1-7.
Schools Hurling
The Carrickshock schools team continued their good run with a win over Kilmacow in the League Championship on Wednesday in Hugginstown. They take on Danesfort in the Country Cup on this Tuesday 6th.
