Reflection:
This weekend we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord. When Jesus was baptised by John in the river Jordan it marked the beginning of Jesus’ public life. We are reminded of our own Baptism which made us part of God’s Family, the Church. When we were baptised, we too began that journey with Christ. Water is a powerful symbol throughout the Old and New Testament, from the story of Creation and the crossing of the Red Sea into freedom; and with the many times Jesus uses water as the symbol of new life. We began this new life with Christ through the waters of Baptism; we Bless ourselves and many other items with Holy Water as a source of God’s protection. This gift of God with us is freely available to us throughout our lives.
