Junior Soccer Club

In the summer of 2004, a small group of local parents decided to have an informal soccer “kick about” for kids aged up to 12 years old on a Saturday morning. Initially, 17 children showed an interest and the initiative continued for a while, often requiring the children to provide their own equipment and using the infamous “jumpers for goalposts”. However, over the course of a period of months, interest among the locally based children grew and the project really began to take root in the community. With the invaluable support of the local Senior soccer club, Stoneyford United FC, the Stoneyford Development Association and a broad range of local government, commercial and private concerns, the group greatly increased in size, purchased a large amount of equipment and set about establishing a juvenile community based soccer club. Before long, friendly matches, both home and away, were being organised and trips to Durrow and as far a field as Wexford were providing valuable experience for the new up and coming club. The newly formed Under 9 Girls team participated in an FAI All Girls Blitz and showed themselves to be force to be reckoned with for the future. Membership continued to grow as interest in the club began to spread to other villages beyond the Stoneyford area.

Currently, Stoneyford FC Juvenile Soccer club boasts in excess of 90 players, ranging in age from 5 to 12 years old, both male and female. The club have now dedicated sections aimed at Under 6’s, Under 9 boys, Under 9 Girls and Under 12’s. Each group are ably supported by group of properly FAI trained and qualified coaches. An Indoor Section has been added in the last 12 months and is primarily aimed at boy and girls aged 8 to 12 years old. An Indoor Mini-League proved a great success last season and plans are currently underway to replicate that success with the introduction of a similar Outdoor Mini-League prior to the end of 2008.

Stoneyford FC outdoor training takes place every Saturday morning from 12 to 1pm at the Community pitch in the village and indoor soccer is played in the Community Hall every Thursday evening from 7-8pm.
